Chief Physician Executive (CPE)

The Chief Physician Executive (CPE) will lead transformational initiatives that align providers of care in order to enhance clinical quality outcomes, improve patient safety, establish organization-wide best practices, improve cost effectiveness of care and prepare the organization for value based contracting and reimbursement.

Working in a triad model with the President/CAO of Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) and CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS), the CPE is responsible for defining the overall business strategy and direction of the organization. The CPE will work to ensure NGPG’s ability to actualize its vision of providing best-in-class care that improves the overall health and vitality of the communities it serves. It is the responsibility of the CPE to model and uphold the mission, vision and standard performance expectations of both NGPG and the health system.

The CPE will keep abreast of, and oversee compliance with, state and federal regulations applicable to clinical matters. Together with clinical and administrative leadership, the CPE will work on clinical practice matters such as the practice of medicine, quality standards, expectations and improvement initiatives. The CPE has responsibility in assuring that the clinical enterprise delivers patient-centered, high quality, high value health care; and is responsible for the overall clinical performance of the provider staff.

Education, Training, & Experience

  • MD or DO is required
  • Board Certified in primary specialty
  • Active, unrestricted GA license to practice medicine
  • Active, unrestricted DEA license
  • Active or eligible for privileges with NGHS
  • 10 years of clinical practice experience
  • Experience in leadership and management within a physician group practice is required
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with and influence providers, leaders and staff at all levels of the organization
  • Advanced degree preferred such as CPE, MBA, MMM or MPH
Position Overview
  • The CPE shall be expected to devote fifty percent (50%) of time each week to CPE related duties, and the remaining fifty percent (50%) shall be spent in a clinical environment practicing medicine
  • Establish and implement standards and policies to promote quality of medical care and services provided to patients
  • Keep senior leadership informed of medical policies and clinical initiatives and their effectiveness in continually improving managed care capabilities
  • Work with administrative leaders to efficiently deploy technology and other enterprise shared services across clinical service lines
  • Develop and implement a physician leadership structure
  • Provide leadership for the enhancement of a culture of physician satisfaction, accountability and shared responsibility providing for maximum patient care and quality of care delivered
  • Represent NGPG at State and National conferences and events
  • Support recruitment of providers to include the development of retention strategies for providers
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
